IMCR offers mediation services to people who are undergoing vocational rehabilitation and want to resolve disputes experienced during their rehabilitation or just improve communication among those involved in the rehabilitation process. Under this program participants have a number of options including administrative review, mediation and/or impartial hearings. Vesid stands for Vocational Education Services for Individuals with Disabilities and referrals for this program come to IMCR through NYSDRA.
In 1988 the Federal Vocational Rehabilitation Act mandated that "Each state shall establish procedures for mediation of, and procedures for review through an impartial due process hearing of, determinations made by personnel of the designated State unit that affect the provision of vocational rehabilitation services to applicants."
If you or someone you know is dissatisfied with a VESID decision you should inform VESID in writing and request mediation to resolve the issue. A mediation session will be scheduled as quickly as possible and will occur at a site and time that is convenient to all parties.
